FAQs

Q?Do you custom build computers?
A.

No, we are not currently custom-building computers.  Our staff would be happy to help direct you to where you can find the right parts at a great price, but we do not build custom machines ourselves.  With all the variety in the commercial market, most clients are advised to just purchase a preset computer.  Only experienced clients looking for serious, specific applications are advised to build their own machine.

Q?Do you work on tablets / smartphones?
A.

Yes!  We can help you set up your tablet or smartphone and sync your calendars & email.  We do not, however, repair broken screens on either tablets, smartphones, or laptops.

Q?Do you sell computers?
A.

Yes!  The Computer Guy NJ does sell select Dell, HP, Lenovo, Asus, and Acer desktop and laptop computers.  Please contact us for more information.

Q?My computer was fast when I bought it, and now it seems slow. Why?
A.

There are many reasons why your computer may seem slow.  One of the most common reasons is that as your computer is used, the hard disk drive becomes fragmented, slowing the amount of time it takes to read a file off the hard drive. This affects the speed at which programs load as well.  Additionally, cached files from browsing sessions can continue to pile up in your temp directories.  Routinely running a disk defrag or disk cleanup can keep your computer running smoothly.

Q?What do I need to do to protect myself from Viruses?
A.

Keeping your computer protected from viruses is an easy process that you should begin the moment you first turn on your computer.  Make sure that you have a reputable anti-virus protection software actively installed on your computer and that you frequently update it.  Most virus security platforms allow you to set up a convenient time for your computer to download and install updates.  Some popular anti-virus programs include: Avast Free Antivirus, Eset NOD32 Antivirus, BitDefender, Malware Bytes.
